Hellenic Bank Association (HBA) Members

(Click on any bank below to connect to its web site, all have English as well as Greek web pages.

Also note: That due to Greece's ongoing economic crisis, the Greek banking industry and members of the Hellenic Banking Association is in a state of flux and consolidation. The original merger slated in 2011 between Alpha Bank and EFG Eurobank was called off in March 2012. In October 2012, National Bank of Greece has made a formal offer for EFG Eurobank in a share swap.   Meanwhile the Bank of Piraeus took over the good assets of ATE Bank. As of early 2013 Bank of Piraeus took over Geniki Bank. Due to these moves of rationalisation, you should anticipate that the banks will review the need for all the branches they operate once mergers and acquisitions have taken place. The list below of locations is therefore subject to change. Ask locally if a bank branch has moved, renamed to new parent bank or just relocated.

- Remember to Introduce Yourself to your Greek bank manager!

According to EU legislation if you hold an account in the country, you must prove who you are under European Union requirements with proof of identity. This is handled in Greece under reference Greek Law 3691/2008 (Government Gazette Α’ 166/5.8.2008) and the relevant provisions of the Bank of Greece (National Central Bank) decision 281/5/17.3.2009 (Government Gazette Β’ 650/9.4.2009) for the prevention of money laundering and terrorism financing, and under Greek Law 2472/1997 on the individual’s protection. Under those Greek statutes, anyone with a Greek bank account must provide up-to-date, verifiable personal information to their bank, even if they have been a client of the bank for many years.
